HOUSTON — Harris County's mandate to wear face coverings in public places went into effect on Monday April 27, 2020. Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo said this isn't a police state, but penalties are in effect for non-compliance, including fines of up to $1,000.
The symptoms of coronavirus can be similar to the flu or a bad cold. Symptoms include a chilling fever, dry cough and shortness of breath, according to the CDC. Some people also have nausea, body aches, headaches and stomach pain. Losing your sense of taste and/or smell can also be an early warning sign.
Most healthy people will have mild symptoms while older people are under higher risk. CDC says 80 percent of people will have mild cases of covid-19
Infections can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure. Older people with health conditions are most at risk for becoming seriously ill and we have to prevent spreading the virus because of those people. However, American experts are seeing a significant number of younger people being hospitalized, including some in Intensive care unit.
Coronavirus is usually spread through:
Air by coughing or sneezing
Close personal contact, such as touching hands
Touching an object or surface with the virus on it, then touching mouth, nose or eyes before washing hands.
Help stop the spread:
Stay home when you are sick.
Eat and sleep separately from family members
Use different utensils and dishes
Cover your cough or sneeze with your elbow
If you use a tissue, dispose it properly
Do social distancing
